Antonio Pilade

 (born 16th January 1976 in Catania) is an Italian painter/visual artist, film-maker and photographer. Between 1990-1995 he studied Fine Art in Catania and began developing his skills and concepts in art as a very young artist. In 1996 he worked as a set designer in Italy for a theatre company, taking part in projects such as "Roma vista da Fellini" by Pasquale della Monaco and Renato Greco. In 1997, critic and journalist Arcangelo Izzo collected a series of his artworks, and turned them into a successful solo exhibition called “Metropolitani".

 

At the same time he began to develop his skills as a photographer and video producer of video art documentaries and short films, allowing him to continue exploring social and psychological issues from a personal and intimate point of view using media new to him. 

 

Since then Antonino, as an author of short video movies and photography exhibitions, has exhibited his works in different art exhibitions around Europe. In 2005 Antonino was selected for a workshop by Artur Zmijewski (video artist and director of the  Berlin Contemporary Art Biennale and gold lion on the Venice Biennale in 2015).

 

 

In 2008 he worked as AD for the play "Mother of the guys", based on the life of Felicia Impastato interpreted by Lucia Sardo and directed by Marcello Cappelli. In 2009 he has been selected for Tina B Festival (Prague) with an interactive video installation called “Artist’s game”. 

 

In 2010, in London, Antonino worked as a cameraman/photographer for online national magazines. In 2012/13, he made two short films: "Bob" and "Jenet's Diary” as a writer/director/editor, which projects were part of his studies at Westminster Kingsway College in Film and TV. 

 

Both short films were candidate at Trash Cannes Film Festival and “Jenet's Diary” won the 3rd position as the best student’s project. 

In 2013 “BOB” was presented during Karlovy Vary’s film festival at Galerie Umeni.

 

In 2012/13 Antonino worked as a DOP for the short film "Selfish Love" which was presented at London Kurdish Festival.

 

Still in 2012, Antonino started a project in Canary Wharf where he selected 10 artists to create artworks based on the Docklands neighbourhood. He recorded the artistic process from concept to final creation, turning it into a video installation which went on display in October 2012 at Tina B (Prague) and in March 2013 at European Horizons (Savellina) Provincial Museum - Finland. 

 

In 2014/15 Antonino was directing different music videos and the TV show "Limelight”. 

 

In 2015/17 Antonino worked as a DOP for an Indian feature horror film for London Film Production and a Pakistani feature film called "Raagni" (Symphony). 

 

From 2017 to present, Antonio is being working as a cinematographer for a web-tv short-film stories and serials for V.S.O.P. channel, with half million online viewers and “The Blag The Movie”, a Short Film to a feature. A 1980’s dark comedy based on real events starring Jimmy Constable (911) & Terry Coldwell (East 17). 

 

Antonino is now working on a few projects: his story “Romeo”, a finished feature script about love and dark web; “Cezar” feature film, story of a young musician boy living in London through prejudices and random events; and the production of “Don’t Forget” short film, directed by Tim Blagoev, Starring Martin Neely known for “Shakespeare in Love”.
